Top Cancer Clinician-Scientist Appointed Director of Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai

May 24, 2018 - Los Angeles, USA – Renowned cancer clinician and scientist Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD, has been named director of the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai.

Use of Ibuprofen and Similar NSAIDs May Shorten Life of Patients with Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma

May 1, 2018 - Amsterdam, NL – Ibuprofen, aspirin, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most commonly utilized medications in the United States. Primarily for treating pain, inflammation, and preventing cardiovascular disease, NSAIDs’ promising anti-cancer properties have been highlighted by a growing body of data in recent years. However, a new study in the journal Kidney Cancer indicated that non-aspirin NSAID use was associated with shorter overall survival in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC).

New Analysis Shows Hexvix®/Cysview® Significantly Prolongs Time To Progression Of Bladder Cancer

April 29, 2016 - Photocure ASA (OSE: PHO), is pleased to announce publication of a new analysis demonstrating that Blue Light Cystoscopy (BLC) with Hexvix/Cysview significantly prolonged time to disease progression and showed a trend in the reduction of the rate of progression in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The data was published online in the April issue of the peer reviewed journal, Bladder Cancer.

Researchers Make Progress in Genomic Classification of Bladder Cancers

February 19, 2016 - The ability to map the human genome has transformed how scientists and researchers classify various cancers. In the past, cancer cells were examined through a microscope and their appearance, often enhanced with dyes or other agents, was used to categorize the type of cancer. Now, it is possible to extract the DNA or RNA from these cells and establish a classification according to the type and quantity of mutations, active and inactive genes, and other molecular characteristics. An article in the current issue of Bladder Cancer reports the results of a consensus meeting of experts in the field and describes the recent efforts to classify bladder cancers.

MicroRNAs Present Exciting Opportunities for Cancer Therapy and Diagnosis

December 20, 2012 - As many as 50 percent of all human protein-coding genes are regulated by microRNA (miRNA) molecules. While some miRNAs impact onset and progression of cancer, others can actually suppress the development of malignant tumors and are useful in cancer therapy. They can also serve as potential biomarkers for early cancer detection. In a new issue of Cancer Biomarkers, investigators report on non-coding miRNAs as appealing biomarkers for malignancy.
