All authors submitting a paper to SWJ after Jan 1, 2020 will have their article published with full, gold, OA. Authors who have submitted a paper before Nov 1, 2019 and have their article accepted after that date may also opt in to have their article published with OA at introductory pricing. The journal Semantic Web – Interoperability, Usability, Applicability is an international and interdisciplinary journal bringing together researchers from various fields which share the vision and need for more effective and meaningful ways to share information across agents and services on the future Internet and elsewhere.

As such, Semantic Web technologies shall support the seamless integration of data, on-the-fly composition and interoperation of Web services, as well as more intuitive search engines. The semantics – or meaning – of information, however, cannot be defined without a context, which makes personalization, trust and provenance core topics for Semantic Web research.

New retrieval paradigms, user interfaces and visualization techniques have to unleash the power of the Semantic Web and at the same time hide its complexity from the user. Based on this vision, the journal welcomes contributions ranging from theoretical and foundational research over methods and tools to descriptions of concrete ontologies and applications in all areas. Papers which add a social, spatial and temporal dimension to Semantic Web research, as well as application-oriented papers making use of formal semantics, are especially welcome.

The journal is co-published by the Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft AKA.

By submitting my article to this journal, I agree to the IOS Press License to Publish: and the IOS Press Privacy Policy:

See detailed instructions to authors here:

Please take a moment to read IOS Press' general publication ethics guideline before submitting your manuscript.

When preparing a paper for submission to SWJ in LaTeX you can use our LaTeX template.

An Author Order Form will be provided along with the PDF proof.

Required files
For initial submission a .pdf file of the article is sufficient. After an article has been accepted for publication an editable file of the text, such as MsWord or LateX, is required. If you are uploading a paper that has been accepted for publication or accepted pending minor revisions please upload the source files of the paper. If using LaTeX please use our LaTeX template and also send a pdf version of the LaTeX file as well as separate files of all figures (if any); see "Preparation of manuscripts" for the required file formats. LaTeX packages should be compiled into .zip or .rar files.

Open Access fee
Papers submitted to Semantic Web that are accepted for publication will be subject to an Open Access fee. The current Open Access fee is EUR 500,- / US$ 550,- (excl. VAT if applicable) to publish under the CC-BY 4.0 license.

IOS Pre-press
This journal publishes all its articles in the IOS Press Pre-Press module. By publishing articles ahead of print the latest research can be accessed much quicker. The pre-press articles are the corrected proof versions of the article and are published online shortly after the proof is created and author corrections implemented. Pre-press articles are fully citable by using the DOI number. As soon as the pre-press article is assigned to an issue, the final bibliographic information will be added. The pre-press version will then be replaced by the updated, final version.

Authors of published articles (non-prepress, final articles) will be contacted by Kudos. Kudos is a service that helps researchers maximize the impact and visibility of their research. It allows authors to enrich their articles with lay metadata, add links to related materials and promote their articles through the Kudos system to a wider public. Authors will receive no more than three emails: one invitation and a maximum of two reminders to register for the service and link the published article to their profile. Using and registering for Kudos remains entirely optional. For more information, please have a look at our authors section.

Would you like some pointers on how to help your research achieve a wider reach and greater impact? Please consult our Promotional Toolkit for Authors for tips.
