To obtain images which are adequate for clinical diagnostic purposes, methods are required to evaluate the performance of imaging systems. Measurements can be made using images both of test objects and real patient images. The main part of this work involves development and implementation of spatial resolution characteristics of imaging systems used in diagnostic radiography. The resolution characteristics are determined employing square-wave methods using square-wave test objects (SWTO) made of different materials. The method is applied for two types of x-ray diagnostic imaging applications, namely mammography and chest-imaging systems.
The objectives of this thesis are to evaluate and assess the image quality of diagnostic projection radiography systems. Systems investigated include both conventional screen-film and digital systems. The study comprises the total diagnostic x-ray range (mammography and general diagnostic radiography).
